Section I: Property & Import/Export Rights
Topic I: Ownership
P. I
Though connected to your chosen name and email address, upon registration EternityRO is granted full ownership of your account. This, however, does not change the fact that a user is entirely responsible for the safety of his or her own account information. If the owner has supplied others with their log in information, said user is responsible for any and all actions made on the account in question, regardless of whether or not the respective user has provided consent.
P. II
EternityRO does not condone account trading or selling. Any account involved in these events, at GM discretion, shall be banned immediately, along with appropriate related accounts. In-game items and currency do not belong to the player. Rather, EternityRO grants limited temporary ownership of items to player. Selling items/accounts/zeny to make a profit is strictly prohibited as individual players and guilds do not have the authority to do so.
P. III
Players assume all responsibility for any and all possible damages that may occur on their own behalf. This includes all damages caused by both internal and external causes, and includes, but is not limited to, emotional, health, time off work, and any potential inability to carry out future endeavors. Players recognize and agree that spending time in any and all things associated with EternityRO is on a free-will basis, and EternityRO in no way addicts or coerces its players or associated individuals, and therefore all actions are on a want, rather than a need basis.
P. IV
EterntiyRO servers are based in the United States of America, but does not own equipment or hire workers in the United States. However, EternityRO does accept volunteers. All volunteers must pass an entrance process which generally involves an application and an interview, although special circumstances warrant special actions, and therefore general guidelines are not always adhered to. Volunteers receive no form of financial compensation of subsidization for their work, and are never coerced or forced into participating. Equipment in the United States is rented, and belongs to the respective companies which offer the server - Liquid Web and Softlayer.
P. V
EternityRO runs software licensed under the GNU General Public License. Adhering to the United States Supreme Court reversal of the District Court decision of Lotus v. Borland, one program that uses similar functions and labels as another does not impose on the second program's copyright. Because of the United States Supreme Court decision in Lotus v. Borland, EternityRO is fully legal to operate in the United States of America, regardless of where the individual players are from, and does not infract on Aegis copyright laws.
P. VI
The EternityRO client is not a copy of any previously released client. As with any client used to connect to connect to similar software, there are unavoidable similarities in the methods of operation and idea. Because individual labels of text and names does not validate copyright, by 17 U.S.C. Section 102( B ), EternityRO is fully entitled to the use and distribution out of the United States of America for any and all of its clientside software. EternityRO copies nothing, and rather, progresses at its own rate. EternityRO remains its own individual software on all levels.
P. VII
Art forms expressed that may occur in the EternityRO client has the unique use of conveying a more pleasurable gameplay for EternityRO only; therefore, falls under a directly different purpose than similar art pieces that may occur elsewhere. Because art is an illustrated concept, this also falls under 17 U.S.C. Section 102( B ), and does not violate any copyright.
P. VIII
Because EternityRO facilitates electronic communication between its members, contributers, and administrators, EternityRO will not be forced to produce any e-mail content, logs, or information of any kind, as the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, 18 U.S.C. §2701 et seq., relinquishes the need for an electronic communication provider to produce contents of electronic communication, even under a subpeona or court order, except in very special circumstances.
Topic II: Ownership Rule Exploitation
P. I
It is forbidden to attempt to find or exploit any loopholes which may exist for the purpose of legal prosecution, or malicious acting. In the event that a loophole is found in our guidelines, EternityRO reserves the right to apply punishment in any occurrence of improper conduct, seek restitution for all resulting damages, and holds no liability for any damages caused through or by our actions. In addition. EternityRO holds the right to claim compensation for all damages incurred. EternityRO runs on the eAthena framework, and does not distribute property of Gravity Corp.
P. II
All players realize that spending time on EternityRO is purely voluntary, and are free to leave or change their level of participation at any time. Players also realize that EternityRO has the ability, at its sole discretion to cancel or change any portion of its services at any time without prior warning, with no compensation to other parties.
Section II: General behavior
The human operating the device connecting to the server at the time (known as "Player") is said to be the Player of the account at that given instant. Although Players may infringe on policies, it is the character, account, or Owner(s) that take the blame.
Topic I: Harassment
P. I
Harassment can come in many different forms, and none of them are acceptable under EternityRO rules. Harassment can include, but is not limited to, verbally abusing an individual or group, unwanted following or stalking, spam and spreading rumors. Harassment is defined as "Words, conduct or action, usually repeated or persistent that, being directed at a specific person, annoys, alarms, or causes substantial emotional distress in that person and serves no purpose."
P. II
If a Player is being harassed through private messages, that Player is asked to /ex before reporting it. If the offender changes characters to keep harassing the victim, the offender and all related accounts will be punished. Posting pictures of other players without their explicit permission is not allowed. Pictures meant to be private are not to be shared anywhere on EternityRO at penalty of permanent ban.
P. III
If a Player is being harassed by being followed around or spammed, the Player is asked to use @request to request assistance. If the GMs find there is substantial warrant, the offender will be punished. However, it is asked that the Player politely asks the offender to stop.
P. IV
Players who have nothing good to say about another, is asked not to spread rumors in public chat. While we will not control what goes on in private chat of party, guild, or PMs of friends, we disapprove of it. Expressed rumor spreading will result in punishment in accordance to the severity.
P. V
Sexual harassment involves unwanted sexual comments and actions. Players found guilty of continued sexual harassment on multiple occasions (can be proved with 3 or more screen shots of separate instances) will be punished. However, it is asked that the Player politely asks the offender to stop.
P. VI
If a Player is being sent friend request or trade request over and over again in a malicious purpose, especially in PvP or WoE, that offender will be punished.
P. VII
Punishment for the above infractions can range anywhere from a twelve hour jail to a 3 day temporary ban for first offenses. Players who switch accounts to PM and harass others will be banned rather than jailed.
Topic II: General Rules & Concepts
P. I
- Identity should remain unique to each user. Maliciously 'stealing' another player's name with intent to impersonate them or cause other forms of damage will not be tolerated by our staff. This includes impersonation of our staff members; ANY form of 'Game Master' (GM) in a player's name is subjectable to penalty.
- At no point will offensive, derogatory, obscene or otherwise objectable language be tolerated by our GM team. This includes, but is not limited to racial and ethnic slurs, sexism, and harassment. Attempts to surpass this rules with alternate spellings or other forms of internet speak will also fall under disciplinary action.
- Threats, harassment and any deliberate directing of unwanted attention to another player is unacceptable.
- Altering the game to give yourself an advantage over other players is inadmissible. This includes (without limitation) the use of third party programs such as WPE, OpenKore (or any other botting program), hexed clients, and keyboard/mouse/auto response macros.
- If an exploitable bug is found in game, a user is to report the problem to a member of our staff immediately. If any abuse of the bug in question is to take place, the perpetrator may be banned relative to the severity of the abuse.
- Accusations of cheating or unfair activity should be brought up in private with a member of EternityRO's GM team. Please provide proof of the rule infringement before you point any fingers. This also applies to the GM team; attacks on our staff will be treated in the same fashion as a player vs. player case.
Section III: Specific behavior
Topic I: Kill Stealing
P. I
The Player is said to own the given aggressive monster (known as "Aggressive Mob") if the Player has the Aggressive Mob in his or her threat range, and the Aggressive Mob is currently following him or her (verb known as "Aggroed"). If an Aggressive Mob is Aggroed onto a Player, that Player is said to own that Aggressive Mob (known as "Mob Ownership") as long as the Player does not lose the attention of the Aggressive Mob (known as "Unaggro"), unless through a method described below.
P. II
If an Aggressive Mob owned by a Player is attacked, provoked, or otherwise followed in close proximity with the intention of causing the Aggressive Mob to Unaggro the Player who Owns the Aggressive Mob, the Player doing such will have performed Kill Stealing. Examples of kill stealing include, but are not limited to casting turn undead on an anubis when the anubis is following someone else, following close behind a sniper mobbing galions trying to steal the galions from the sniper, and following a sin trying to mob anolians waiting for him to hide.
P. III
If a Player is leveling via the grimtooth skill, the Player still has Ownership of any Aggressive Mob she had before she hid for five seconds. If another Player came along, he must count at least five seconds before attempting to grab the monsters. Otherwise, this will be considered Kill Stealing. If another Player Aggroes the monsters after five seconds, the Player who continues to Grimtooth will then be penalized for Kill Stealing.
P. IV
MVPs (boss monsters) are exempt from the Kill Stealing rule, and are Free for All. However, MVP rules still apply, as listed below.
P. V
To report a Player for Kill Stealing, a Player must either use @request so a GM can see it first hand, or the Player must submit at least three well defined incidents in screenshots, or one well defined incident in a video. Videos are not to exceed 20mb in size. Please note that even though @noks is enabled, KS reports are still valid.
P. VI
The same rules apply for non-aggressive mobs. However, if a Player gathers more than 10 non-aggressive mobs at once, another Player may take those mobs with a single-target skill or attack until the number of mobs no longer exceeds 10. This means that while you may KS someone who has a large mob of non-aggressive monsters, you may not kill the entire mob with an AoE skill (Claymore, Focused Arrow Strike, Stormgust, and so on). Non-aggressive mobs include, but are not limited to, Porings, Thara Frogs, Thief Bugs and so on.
P. VII
The punishment for Kill Stealing is 12 hours in jail for a first offense. For cases that are not well defined, a verbal warning will be issued. A second offense will constitute of a 36 hour jail, and a third offense will be a 72 hour jail. For repeated offenders, temporary bans will be issued on all associated accounts.
Topic II: Autoloot & Exp Abuse
P. I
Hitting monsters to damage them by 50% and then teleporting, waiting for someone else to kill them as a strategy for leveling or hunting is against the rules. While the rules for this are not completely defined, GMs are free to use their own judgment to determine whether an incident is an infraction of the rules. This is a very much common-sense rule.
P. II
The punishment for Autoloot & Exp Abuse is 12 hours in jail for a first offense. For cases that are not well defined, a verbal warning will be issued. A second offense will constitute of a 36 hour jail, and a third offense will be a 72 hour jail. For repeated offenders, temporary bans will be issued on all associated accounts.
Topic III: MvP Griefing
P. I
MvPs (Boss Monsters, not including minibosses with the exception of the Valkyrie minis) are Free For All, it gives any party, guild or person the right to attack, or otherwise affect a given MvP. However, griefing in any detrimental way is NOT allowed. You are allowed to directly compete for damage, but things such as pneuma, LP, Assump, etc are not allowed. Claiming ignorance is not an excuse for High End MVPs, and if you're too ignorant to understand the strategy, especially when other players yell at you, you should not be doing High End MVPs. Intentionally teleporting MvPs is also forbidden.
P. II
In the case of any MVP requiring a large party and organization (Randgris, Beelzebub, Satan Morroc, etc), punishment for partyless griefing is TRIPLED. However, the standards we place on evidence are a bit higher due to the chaotic nature of the dungeon in question. Video evidence is recommended, but if screenshots are conclusive enough we can take action with them as well. We are aware that two competing parties will often teleport the MvP for their own gain and this is discouraged.
P. III
Minibosses are not considered MvPs, with the exception of Valkyrie on Odin 2 and Odin 3 maps. Hardrock Mammoth and Tendril Lion, while not technically MVPs, are considered such.
P. IV
The punishment for Griefing is 24 hours in jail for a first offense. For cases that are not well defined, a verbal warning will be issued. Continued accounts of griefing, or obviously intentional griefing on high end MVPs will result in item loss, zeny loss, or bans right away.
P. V
As always, the GM team reserves the right to rule on special circumstances as we see fit. We are not a mindless bureaucracy and as such if you're clearly just griefing for griefing's sake, we will see it and punish it. Keep that in mind when attempting to exploit potentially overlooked loopholes.
P. VI
There has been controversy in whether MVP loot blocking is legal. The official statement is this: Because MVPs are meant to be a team activity, having appropriate classes there to claim the loot is just as important as having classes there to kill or block the MVP. Therefore, if a secondary party is capable of killing the MVP (in all aspects, damage, blocking, tank, etc... differs for each MVP), that party is allowed to try and prevent the second party from obtaining the loot. However, if the second party cannot normally kill (and prove they can kill by having appropriate classes) the MVP, and tries to grief the loot, then said party will be punished by the rules above.
P. VII
In the specific case of Satan Morroc, hitting his mobs will "activate" them. Because activating them in no way promotes killing the MVP, it is illegal to intentionally activate them. If anyone is caught intentionally doing so (especially after being told not to), they will be punished extremely harshly. MVPs are meant to be a challenge of skill, not who has the most time.
Topic IV: AFK Leveling
P. I
AFK Leveling refers to, but is not limited to, not being at the computer while a homunculus is killing monsters, using a High Orc Card and a Grand Cross to TU to kill monsters while being AFK, and other autocast features that allow the killing or weakening of monsters while the player is not there. This however, does not include leeching or being leeched, as long as the above is not also done at the same time. Now that Battlegrounds has been included, AFK leveling will also cover being AFK in battlegrounds, leeching.
P. II
AFK Levelers will be tested by a GM for one minute. Any AFK Leveler exceeding one minute of inactivity, will be jailed when found by a GM. The GM jailing must offer sufficient proof, with screenshots showing two distinct instances with at least 40 seconds of separation.
P. III
AFK alchemists in general is defined not by what the player is doing, but rather by how he or she reacts. If you do not pass the test, whether you are AFK, alt-tabbed, on a different character, talking on the phone, or watching TV, you will be considered an AFK alchemist. AFK teleporters are defined as anyone teleporting and not passing the modified AFK test. It doesn't matter if you're using a macro, having a younger brother do it, or watching TV and just pressing flywing. If you do not pass the test, you are an AFK teleporter. Those logging off while the test is being conducted will also receive the same punishment as an AFK teleporter.
P. IV
Punishment for AFK Leveling on a first offense is a 3m zeny fine to be taken from the alchemist, or from a related character. If no zeny is present, items of closest (higher) worth will be deleted. If there is nothing still, the character will be jailed for 24 hours without being allowed to rest the homunculus. Second and third offenses will result in amplified punishments.
P. V
The punishment for an AFK teleporter is the loss of zeny/items on the infringing Alchemist and a 5 day jail for the first offense. Any rule breaking after this will result in a ban.
P. VI
A alchemist/creator with an active homunculus is only allowed to level, hunt, and otherwise kill monsters (directly or indirectly) one at a time. This means they can only have one alchemist/creator logged in - not that they cannot kill more than one monster at a time. Although we have not enforced this before, current issues force us to take action. EternityRO is meant to be enjoyed as a game, and not to be exploited by those who can run several programs at once, have more machines, or have the technology to create virtual botfarms, eluding the rules. This creates pressure on staff, and wastes our time. In addition, any attempt of getting around these rules will result in punishments. Those caught leveling with more than one alchemist/creator (with an active homunculus) will simply have one of the characters stripped of all items/banned, or in severe cases, deleted altogether.
P. VII
Due to excessive strain on staff, alchemists/creators leveling using a homunculus are now required to answer to players, who are questioning them in their screen, if they can. Players who intentionally do not respond will be treated as AFK levelers. You are only required to respond to one player once every hour, and only if that player is on your screen. Response intervals may not exceed 1 minute.
P. VIII
Anyone idling/afking in any of the Battlegrounds maps (at the sole discretion of GMs) will be punished. Punishment for AFKing in Battlegrounds maps will begin with a 24hour jail. In extreme cases where alternate accounts are being used, this will stretch to a ban across all accounts, at GM discretion. After the first punishment, more severe punishments will be handed out, at GM discretion.
Topic V: Mob Dropping & Dead Branch Assaulting
P. I
If the Player purposely teleports, or loses the aggro of an Aggressive Mob in a way such that the mob attacks an unsuspecting player or party, that offending Player is said to have Mob Dropped. Likewise, spawning dead branches and bloody branches near someone unwanting is also considered Mob Dropping, and will be treated in the same way.
P. II
To report a mob drop incident, players must provide two distinct screen shots. To report a branching incident, a player must take one screenshot. An authorized GM will then look at branch logs.
P. III
Punishment for Mob Dropping intentionally is 24 hours for a first offense, followed by 72 hour subsequent jailing. For heavily repeated offenses, the offender will be permanently banned.
Topic VI: Scamming
P. I
Scamming is not allowed on EternityRO. Actions with the purpose, whether implicit or explicit, to generally mislead in the case of a trade, vend, or other sort of transaction is not allowed.
P. II
Vending non-slotted items for slotted item prices is against the rules. GMs will not take "it was a mistake" as an excuse.
P. III
If you enter into a typed contract with someone to form a legitimate trade and then fail to complete your end of the deal, you are obligated to reverse the trade. Keeping items without honoring your typed contract is forbidden. However, GMs will exercise total discretion in dealing with these cases. You should make sure the trade will go through. Obtaining collateral is recommended.
P. IV
Scamming will have a variety of punishments decided on by the GM per case. In the case of vending non-slotted items for slotted prices, the merchant will be jailed. In addition, your associated account list will be added to our "red list". In the future, you may find the amount of zeny attempted to be scammed spontaneously gone from one of your characters.
P. V
Players attempting to manipulate the market by vending when full of zeny in obscure places run the risk of losing all their zeny. Because the act of vending is intended to accomodate the exchange of goods, such actions are not permitted; doing so jepordizes the health of the economy, and puts undue strain on other players.
Topic VII: WoE Rules
P. I
Emblem changes with an intent to look similar to, or in anyway resemble large active WoE Guild (at GMs' complete discretion) is illegal. Changing your emblem during WoE for the purpose of confusing another guild is not allowed and will be punished.
P. II
Disabling of the emblem during WoE is not allowed. Any WoE guild (as determined subjectively by GMs) must use an unique emblem during War of Emperium. Disabling of emblems is disallowed.
P. III
Punishment for guilds disobeying these rules will be infracted upon the guild master initially. This could range anywhere from a warning to jailing of the guild master to a temporary ban. Continued offense will result in guild level lowering, disabling of certain skills for amounts of time, or even the total disbanding of a guild.
Section IV: Client Modifications
Topic I: General Modification
P. I
EternityRO does not condone the editing of the client, GRF, or related client side files or processes. However, there is an allowed list of modifications if players know how to make the edits. These edits do not provide any advantage, and only serve for preference purposes. Any edit not included on the Allowed List is by default, on the Disallowed List. P. II Details the Disallowed List, while P. III details the Allowed List.
P. II
UNACCEPTABLE
Changing/Deleting the blind effect from Demon of the Heavens
Make all items already identified
Editing to see WoE damage
Editing to see cloaked/hidden characters
Editing homunculus sprites
Changing monster sprites to target MvPs or other mobs
Editing skillnametable to make certain skills easier to see. Switching between iRO / kRO names is fine, however.
P. III
ACCEPTABLE
Any kind of mouse freedom that doesn't include a macro.
Deleting trees and pieces of scenery. This does not include changing monster sprites.
Modified item sprites (like the large card sprites).
Modified Auras sprites.
Frost Joke/Scream text (MUST DISPLAY A LINE)
You can change no-guild emblems to blacks, or custom.
Homunculus AI scripts
P. IV
It is encouraged that guilds check that each of their players is not using a modified client.
To determine the accuracy of accrued data, random (or select) people from different guilds will be checked. While GMs will try to avoid doing this during big rushes or heavy defenses, sometimes it is necessary, and thus will be done. Checks will be anywhere from non-woe times, beginning of WoE, to the end of WoE. Anyone logging out or "disconnecting" during a check will be auto-banned in most cases. However, we will analyze each case on a case-by-case basis.
Note that anyone found using unofficial clients (other than the ones available on the site and listed here) will receive a punishment based on how severe the found edit is. By the Administration's sole discretion, if the edit is found to be advantageous, guilds with repeated offenses will lose all castles for that week, and have all commerce wiped. Depending on the situation, it may also carry over to the alliance. On repeated offenses, other guild punishments will also be enacted. Any guild found supporting disallowed modified clients will also be punished. Because the GM team realizes the guild cannot always tell what kind of player they are recruiting, we will give each guild a few chances. We will only enact an entire guild punishment if a problem arises in such a way to predict a pattern.
Section V: Hacking & Scamming
Topic I: Hacking & Cracking
P. I
Anyone attempting to crack the EternityRO servers will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. In addition, all related accounts and IPs will be permanently banned from the game, forums, and IRC.
P. II
Game Masters will use total discretion when dealing with hacking cases that do not result from server security problems. Hacking is defined as any unlawful act relating to another player's account, whether access is given willingly or not. As such, all players are required to follow the points illustrated here. All players are encouraged and required to read and comply with this. EternityRO staff will no longer be dealing with every hacking case, because of the extremely large amount of time required to do so. In the event of a real hacking (server hacking), we will, to the best of our ability, restore everything.
P. III
Players who share accounts will receive limited help from the administration - this includes brewers and guild characters. For any given situation, however, it is the Administration's sole decision whether to aid with a case. Also, note that by using someone else's character, you could be banned by relation.
Topic II: Botting & Macros
P. I
All robots, macros, and hardware that allows an extra advantage is disallowed. All offenders will be permanently banned, along with all related accounts and IPs. Those using hardware may receive one warning.
Topic III: Exploitation
P. I
All bugs must be reported. Those failing to report a bug, after either finding it out for themselves or from someone else telling them will be punished.
P. II
Those exploiting bugs for whatever reason will be punished.
P. III
Those who fail to report someone who is exploiting a bug will be punished.
P. IV
Punishments for bug exploits are almost always a permanent ban on all related accounts and IPs. Deals are sometimes made to unban, depending on the situation, and the information the player has to offer in exchange.
Section VI: Game Master Abilities
Topic I: Management
P. I
The Support Team will be governed by the Management Team who themselves have no 'legitimate' characters and exist solely to provide a link between the players of EternityRO and the volunteer support staff. Essentially, this means that the Management Team will handle any disputes arising from mistreatment by the support staff to the population, and vise versa. The Management Team also exists as a "watchdog", checking server logs on a daily basis to ensure that the support staff, although limited in power, is using said power for the benefit of the server and nothing more.
P. II
Disputes relating to mistreatment or 'corruption' by the support staff should be conveyed directly to the Management Team (currently Natasa and Narkissa) who will endeavor to mediate and eventually resolve all issues presented to them. Similarly, support staff who have ongoing issues with players will escalate the issue to the Management Team in order to dismiss any risk of personal bias becoming involved in that particular case. Any issues that players have with the Management Team as individuals or as an entity should be conveyed directly to the server owner, Karei.
Topic II: Support
P. I
The Support Team have Game Master powers that are specifically and carefully limited only to those needed to carry out the day to day tasks required in their role. This means they will not be able to create, trade, or drop anything at all, or interfere with players through commands resulting in player teleportation or harm. The Support Team is forbidden from interacting with players in a beneficial way (tanking, buffing, and resurrecting for example). The Support Team is under constant scrutiny from the Management Team, and is answerable directly to both that entity and the server owner.
